Thousands of supporters of Donald Trump have converged here to attend a massive rally to be addressed by the U.S. president on Wednesday in protest against what he alleges to be a rigged presidential election.
Meanwhile, Sen. Mitt Romney described the effort to reject Electoral College votes as a threat to democracy. "It's honestly just a lot of older folks who are like 'I don't know what's going on'". Shirkey even admitted he was "expecting" Trump to ask them to interfere in the election, and said he and the other Michigan Republicans who joined the meeting were "delighted" that he had not.
The police said that a warrant was issued for his arrest for destruction of property.
Last week, Trump sent out a tweet about an upcoming "Stop the Steal" protest rally in Washington at 11 a.m., local time, on 6 January, just weeks after teasing the event and urging his supporters to be there. Our Country has had enough, they won't take it anymore!
Giuliani said one result that allows Trump to remain in the office is "you can't determine a victor, but you can determine the election was illegal".
The protest corresponded with the congressional vote on Wednesday which is expected to certify the results of the Electoral College which Trump still disputes.

Trump claimed he won the state by 290,000 votes during a Monday evening rally in Georgia, though certified results show he lost by 153,000 votes. Almost all the approximately 60 legal challenges from Trump and his allies have been dismissed by courts, including two challenges rejected by the Supreme Court. The leader of the group was arrested on Monday upon his arrival in the capital. Tarrio has been accused of burning a Black Lives Matter banner torn off a historic Black church in downtown Washington during last month's protests. "Unidentifiable personnel - in many cases, armed - caused confusion among residents and visitors and could become a national security threat with no way for [D.C. police] and federal law enforcement to decipher armed groups", she wrote. Several rallies are planned for Wednesday, including one outside the US Congress. Gen. Ken Paxton and longtime Trump ally Roger Stone, the recipient of a pardon by the president. Stone was convicted of repeatedly lying to Congress during the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Several similar Trump rallies have taken place across the Coastal Bend since the November 3 election. The Dec. 12 rally drew smaller numbers, but a larger contingent of Proud Boys.
At previous pro-Trump protests, police have sealed off Black Lives Matter Plaza itself, but the confrontations spilled out to the surrounding streets.
One speaker for a Tuesday rally, which was held in Freedom Plaza, encouraged attendees to all hug each other - a suggestion that went against current coronavirus guidelines.
