"I experienced a workplace exposure from a member of my team who, despite their best efforts, tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week", continued Ford.
"As Premier, as I said right from the beginning, the buck stops with me".
A provincial benefit paying workers to stay home when they are sick is not new in Ontario.
"I will always try to do what's right", Ford said.
The Progressive Conservative government rejected Opposition motions on paid sick leave earlier this week and said it was waiting to see if Monday's federal budget included any changes to the program.
Members of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table expressed dismay and accused the Ford government of ignoring its calls for paid sick days as the number of infections balloon.
"They left a lot of people angry and upset".
"We worked [for] months, publicly coming out, again our minister of labour, our minister of health, myself [have] come out numerous times", Ford said.
Elliott says it didn't make sense for the province to enact another policy when improvements could have been made to the federal program.
