'What's clear, as the president has said, is that we are suffering from an epidemic of gun violence in this country, both from mass shootings and in the lives that are being taken in daily gun violence that doesn't make national headlines, ' White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.
Mr Singh's brother-in-law, P.J. Bath, another light rail operator at the VTA, confirmed that the shooter and Singh were in different buildings initially but said nothing on the victims being pre-decided by the killer.
Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman Russell Davis said he could not specify the number of deaths and injuries in the incident in San Jose. "These are and were essential workers".
It has not yet been determined whether those shot and killed were targeted.
We spoke to an ex-girlfriend of Cassidy.
VTA worker Kirk Bertolet told ABC News that Cassidy was a loner who was "never a part of the group".
That's when he filed the restraining order against her, the report said.
She said he enjoyed playing mind games with her, according to the court document.

The neighbor later noticed a fire broke out at Cassidy's home around 6:30 a.m.

Inside, police said they found a stockpile of ammunition but have not yet publicly linked the arson call to the shooting.
The explosive materials have since been traced to the suspect's locker where Smith said authorities found precursor items to building explosives but no actual devices.
It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the two-alarm fire, which caused heavy damage and left the structure uninhabitable, the fire department said.
