"It's possible that some people who are fully vaccinated could get Covid-19".
Professional tennis, which requires players to jet around the world, was shut down for five months a year ago as countries locked down borders to stem the spread of the virus. CDC also recommends that travellers who are keen to travel domestically should not get tested unless it is a requirement by the local authorities.
As it stands, the new travel measures don't mention whether people need proof of vaccination to travel, but for now, USA airlines don't require official documentation.
For global travel, passengers should still have a negative test before boarding a flight to the United States and a follow-up test three to five days after their return, the CDC says.
"More than one in five adults is already fully vaccinated" in the United States, said Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC.
Hong Kong democracy leaders convicted over 2019 protests
Media mogul Jimmy Lai , founder of " Apple Daily", leaves the Court of Final Appeal by prison van in Hong Kong on Feb 9. The prosecution argued that the freedom of assembly isn't absolute in Hong Kong.
In another statement, U.S. Travel Association president and CEO Roger Dow said, "The CDC's new travel guidance is a major step in the right direction that is supported by the science and will take the brakes off the industry that has been hardest hit by the fallout of COVID by far".
Meanwhile, fully vaccinated people do not need to self-quarantine after returning to the US.
"The CDC's data suggests that vaccinated individuals don't transmit the coronavirus, which opens the door much wider for resuming travel, albeit while continuing to carefully follow other health best practices". The term Fully Vaccinated, as used by CDC, refers to people who have passed the timeline of two weeks after their second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks since they received the single dose of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine.
While vaccination will not yet stop players from being tested at tournaments, it will exempt them from the initial quarantine on arrival and allow them full use of on-site facilities.
