Over three decades in Congress, the Los Angeles-area congresswoman has drawn criticism from Republicans and conservatives, who were quick to seize on her comments Monday.
Judge Peter Cahill denied a motion by Chauvin's defense attorney for a mistrial on the grounds of Waters' remarks but said that the congresswoman may have given the defense grounds for appeal in the event of a conviction. In the state's closing argument, prosecutors said Chauvin kneeled on Floyd's neck and back for 9 minutes and 29 seconds because of his pride and his ego in the face of concerned bystanders.
"He recognizes the issue of police violence against people of color, communities of color is one of great anguish, and it's exhausting and quite emotional at times", she said, adding, "But as he also always says, protests must be peaceful".
Waters apparently had no new comments Tuesday after saying Monday in an interview with theGrio that she had been talking about confronting the judicial system and passing legislation.
"I just think it's absurd, and I think it ought to be roundly rejected", Hoyer said of Republican efforts to censure Waters. I'm talking about legislation. I just don't know how this jury can really be said to be that they are free from the taint of this.
"We've got to make sure that they know that we mean business", she declared, calling for protestors "get more confrontational". I want you to stop meeting.
3 adults fatally shot in Austin, no suspect in custody: EMS
Interim Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon said Stephen Broderick was suspected in Sunday's deaths of two women and a man. And in the two weeks after, six died in an apparent familicide in Texas and seven in a SC attack, including the gunmen.
The comments, excused by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the White House, drew the admonishment of Judge Peter Cahill who presides over Chavuvin's trial.
Paul International Airport on Saturday and demanded a guilty verdict for the former officer "or else".
"Well, I'll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal, that may result in this whole trial being overturned", Judge Cahill responded. McCarthy also says if Pelosi doesn't take action against Waters, he will. McCarthy's options are limited as Republicans are in the minority, but he could take several symbolic steps, including calling for a censure of Waters, even if Democrats would block such an action. "Marjorie Taylor Greene is a mess", Jeffries said of House Republicans who have come under fire in recent weeks for their divisive views and incendiary language. "Maybe she'll go to the funerals that may happen if there's extreme violence".
Jeffries ripped into McCarthy for failing to condemn Republican colleagues who used inciteful language in the days leading up to the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol and for voting to overturn the presidential election results later that night.
"Maxine talked about confrontation in the manner of the Civil Rights movement", she told reporters at the Capitol, adding that she did not think the congresswoman should apologise.
A year later she urged a crowd, if they ever saw a Trump official in public, to "get out and you create a crowd".
