"I was aware that at least one video had gone viral on the internet, but I intentionally chose not to look at that until I had examined Mr. Floyd", he said. "I did not want to bias my exam by going in with preconceived notions that might lead me down one pathway or another", Baker said.
Floyd's "primary mechanism of death is asphyxia, or low oxygen", Thomas said on Friday, an assessment that aligns with the conclusion of Dr. Andrew Baker, the medical examiner who determined Floyd died from cardiopulmonary arrest complicated by the way law enforcement restrained him and compressed his neck.
Crump went on to reveal that the Floyd family also has some prominent faces in their corner, like Clooney, who allegedly wrote to the civil rights attorney to condemn Chauvin's defense team for suggesting that drugs, and not Chauvin's knee pressed onto Floyd's neck, were the cause of death.
Any "healthy person", he said, would have died in a similar restraint, which he compared to a vise, supporting the county medical examiner's finding that Floyd's death was a homicide at the hands of police.
In later questions by prosecutor Jerry Blackwell, Thomas told the jury that a pathologist would be wrong to ignore pertinent facts when determining a cause of death, and said hypothetical questions did not aid this work.
The official autopsy of George Floyd makes no mention of asphyxia, but Dr Thomas - a veteran forensic pathologist who has performed well over 5,000 autopsies in multiple USA states - said she believed it was the primary manner by which he died.
Chauvin, 45, is charged with murder and manslaughter in Floyd's death May 25 after kneeling on him for what prosecutors say was nearly 9 1/2 minutes.

Mr Floyd died after the officer knelt on his neck following his arrest for trying to use a counterfeit note at a convenience store.
The footage of Mr Chauvin, who is white, with his knee on African-American Mr Floyd's neck sparked global protests against racism. But it also noted "other significant conditions", including fentanyl intoxication and recent methamphetamine use as well as heart disease. Blackwell asked Thomas, who agreed.
Chauvin's attorney has repeatedly shown the jury still images from the video that he said depicted the officer's knee on Mr Floyd's shoulder blade, not his neck. His lawyer said the evidence "is clearly more than about nine minutes and 29 seconds", referring to the videos of Mr Floyd's death. Baker has not ruled asphyxiation to be a cause of Floyd's death.
"What was absolutely unique in this case was the volume of materials I had to review", she said, referring to videos recorded on bystanders' cellphones and police body-worn cameras.
Dr. Daniel Isenschmid, a forensic toxicologist with a private company that analyzed Floyd's autopsy, testified that the levels of methamphetamine and fentanyl in Floyd's system were not a factor in his death.
"You know he already had very severe underlying heart disease". "And it really required getting all of this other additional information, specifically the video evidence of the terminal events, to conclude the cause of death and the manner of death". She wasn't immediately identified.
A 19-year veteran of the Minneapolis Police Department, Chauvin was sacked from the force after Floyd's death. Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill overruled the objection, but told jurors it was up to them whether they wanted to follow along with Tobin in feeling their own throats.
